Seminars at Sydney Barefoot Center
The Sydney Barefoot Center is located in the outskirts of Baulkham hills in Sydney, around an hour from the CBD. The property is around 23.5 acres with a covered 3/4 size arena and a near full size outdoor arena. The best feature of the property is the massive building that now houses the hoofcare classroom and the founder rehab stable, both are 22m long by 8m wide. These facilities are well suited to working with horses and students as no mater how bad the weather we are either working in the arena or with a couple of horses in the classroom itself. The classroom is ready for the next level of clinics where we can teleconference with overseas experts via the internet and video conferencing systems. Each student has access to a PC with touch screen capability for class room activities or conferencing. The other facilities at the center include a Lunch area with BBQ and a table to seat 20 people as well as a fire pit with log seating for those cold morning starts or late afternoon chats. We have two class room skeletons for review including Xena a rather amazing horse that defy's the odds on so many levels. She survived what we suspect was a floating accident which broke 8 vertebral processes, and lived to a ripe old age in very good health. There will be a number of clinics run out of the classrooms at Sydney Barefoot Center. These include Basic Hoof Care clinics:These are aimed at the horse owner no matter what level they are, to learn about the horses hoof and how it works. You will learn how to care for the hoof from diet to exercise as well as identifying hoof deformations and the basic use of tools. You will learn to use those tools for maintainance of your own horses. The skills learned here are only a fraction of what you need to deal with all hoof maladies so do not think you can trim any horse. If you bring your own horse you will gain information on how to monitor specific areas of your own horses hooves. Advanced Hoof care:These clinics are aimed at anyone who has done any 2 day basic course previously and wants to put more of the Jigsaw pieces together. We delve into hoof balancing and issues related to navicular syndrome and other hoof pain as well as training the new growth of hoof capsule to achieve the best functions of all parts of the hoof. It is also suitable for vets and farriers to gain an advantage in their own work in helping clients with Navicular Syndrome. Founder Clinics:These clinics are a narrow version of the advanced hoof clinics, where the advanced clinic touches on laminitis and founder. The depth of these founder clinics is aimed at owners dealing with founder issues or vets and farriers wanting to learn how best to deal with laminitis or founder, as well as methods to reduce supporting limb laminitis problems. The causes and treatments of laminitis are covered as well as looking in to founder and the rebuilding of a foundered hoof back to normal. Also covered is how to read the hoof as it heals and what to do to manage various laminitis and founder issues. Dissection Clinics:These are run with world renowned equine anatomist Sharon May-Davis. These are just fantastic clinics and Sharon's energy is contagious. You will delve deeply into muscles and function as well as nerves and pathologies fom injury or exercise. |
